Naches Heights
A 1929 house overlooking the valley
Udell Manor sits in the Naches Heights area of Yakima, Washington. Shingle and stone, mature trees, a canal, ponds, and small bridges. The grounds are private. One booking at a time.
Indoor rooms remain for smaller portrait sessions. On the drive, a 1930 Ford Model A can sit as a display or as a prop in the frame.

The last ninety minutes of sun do most of the work. Flare through the pines, warm highlights, green-black shadow. People stay small in the frame. The place is the subject.

Heritage note — Clayton E. Udell
The house on the Heights
Born in Wisconsin in 1875, Clayton E. Udell came west in 1906 and practiced law in Yakima for twenty-five years. In 1909 he planted apples and pears on Naches Heights, hauling water to the young trees in barrels — the beginning of the Udell apple business.
He built the house on the Heights in 1929 and moved his family in the following year, served on the school board and the Commercial Club, and helped found the Naches Heights Community Club. He died in 1939. Udell Apple Co. grew from those orchards.
